Yesterday I quit, today I began again

Yesterday was another long day. Even though I have been slack packing, the need for new shoes has been a major priority and has put my feet on scream mode. When I got to the shelter I was ready to quit. My feet hurt so bad, the temp was dropping and clouds were billowing in. I was just tired of hurting every day and being cold.  Thank goodness Bruce was there to help me. After I cooked our Jetboil packaged meal for him and my cheesy rice I excused myself from my hiking buddies and explained how I was grouchy bear tonight and going to bed to rest my feet.

Bruce and I had the shelter to ourselves. The other guys tented. Guess they were afraid of the Black Bear’s temperment. Temps dipped and it was cold but I was snug and warm in my sleeping bag. I had a fairly good nights sleep and awoke refreshed and ready to hike my planned 14.9 miles.  A light day compared to lately. I let Walking Man know I was no longer a grouchy bear but happy bear. He said “how can that be on such $hi++y day.” I laughed. It was raining this morning but my feet didn’t hurt and I was ready to go. As always, a good day always follows a bad day.

Today is ending at a Mexican restaurant. I will get a shower and a bed complete with pillow and sheets. Not to mention my new hiking shoes from LLBean, new tent and foot pads. Life is good.

Happy Hiking
