What a fabulous day

Three days of no foot pain and a fabulous day today makes for one super happy hiker. One could not have ordered a more perfect day. Great weather, great trail partner (Wye Knot), great trail support (Batman) and a great terrain today.

Today’s path took us 16.2 miles from Dalton, MA to Massachusett’s highest peak, Mt. Graylock at 3491 feet.

The trail was super easy with it being mostly uphill but a nice slightly challenging but not daunting slope with very little mud, roots or rocks. They existed but nothing too annoying.

We are staying at Bascom Lodge

which sits just below the Veterans War Memorial Tower which stands at the summit. Today’s view was a perfect ending to a perfect day. This is why I push on when the hiking is tough, hard, painful and challenging. For days like these I feel like I can move mountain or two – Asia.

We have reached mile 1586.3 of this 2189 mile journey. In 10.4 miles I will enter the beautiful state of Vermont. We have heard though that Vermont should be called Ver-mud from hiker friends who are ahead of us. Something to look forward to.

Right before the summit we strolled along this peaceful pond. It was beautiful.

It was such a super surprise to stumble on to.

It’s time now to plan our miles for tomorrow before I climb up into my bunk and slip off in to lala land with this being the last thing before sleep overtakes me.
