5:00 chimed in as usual to wake us from our slumber. We were not completely asleep because usually the birds start their pre-alarm for us around 4am. It is quite pretty. Why does it seem I sleep the soundest right before it is time to get up. Last time I looked at the clock last night was about 12am.
The three of us got packed up and headed down the mountain by 6:40 am. We had some ups and downs mixed with some thick and soupy mud sections and a final steep and rocky 3/4 mile descent. It took us roughly 3 hours. Just in time for breakfast at a local diner. Being hungry hikers and a sign that read “breakfast and lunch served all day” tempted our taste buds so we all had burgers for breakfast.
Next Wye Knot, Batman and myself chto checked into the Hampton Inn where we proceeded to do our Nero day chores, re supply, laundry, repack and nurse any injuries. Eye Knot has some painful blisters on his Achilles and I am just resting my usual metatarsals.
We have been in the hot tub, pool and sauna and I am headed back down for one more round of soaking after I complete my Epsom salt footpath here in the room. On the trail we whine and moan about being wet and sweaty on the trail. But whenever we get the chance we soak and relax in the healing waters of a cool stream
Or hot shower, pool, jacuzzi, etc. the trail is all about the tolerance zone each one of us has with water.
This was a great Nero day spent with Batman celebrating our 25th anniversary and we got to spend it with Wye Knot a great friend. Life couldn’t be better.
