We tamed the Wildcats today

August 13: We tamed the Wildcats today, peak E at 4065ft, peak D at 3990ft, peak C at 4274 feet and Peak A at 4422. We topped out at 4832ft atop of Carter Dome. It was a tough day of steep ups and steep downs. We covered 8.5 miles in a whopping 9 hours, very slow day but I so do love the climbs. One fellow hiker who I hadn’t seen in weeks was in a bit of disagreement with me on that. We all were taking a quick break at Wildcat Peak A and I noticed he was really quite. I asked if he was okay and he said how he missed the trails of the south. These straight ups and downs are really hard. I secretly felt great because even though the mountains here are tough I don’t feel they are getting the best of me or my hiking gal-pals, Maps and Moxie.

We saw a snake today, cute little thing and a beautiful Spruce partridge hen and her sole chick. They are so tame we could have caught her. We took pictures only.

Tomorrow we will make it to White Mountain Hostel to resuppy, meet up with Batman and push into the NH-ME.

Happy Hiking
