Having a nice zero day

I can’t remember how long it has been since I was able to sleep until I can’t sleep any more. It felt so good. My fellow hikers think I am crazy when I tell them we are driving over an hour to a nice hotel. But to me it is worth it, not to mention free from points. After 1200+ miles sleeping in shelters and hostels with strangers gets old. It was fun and exciting in the beginning but now it’s annoying. Listening to others snoring and bodily noises, lack of amenities and controlled air environment is for the bears, just not this bear. I still enjoy sleeping in my tent, especially when it rains but every week or so I like to be rescued and taken away so I can regroup, dry out and get refreshed to be able to hit the trail again rejuvenated. If I could finish this hike hotel hopping that would be fantastic. But there is a budget to consider.

Today we have not left the hotel. Got up about 8:20am. Yes, that’s sleeping in for me. We went right down and sat in the hot tub. That’s where our night ended last night and will also tonight. A great way to soften callused and tired feet. I feel like a girl again after my shower and the use of a badly needed razor. Even last week Pumpkin Bear asked if I gave up using a razor. It was long over due. One good thing about hairy legs though is you can feel the bugs and ticks crawling on you easier. I will just have to use extra Ben’s 100 DEET.

Lunch was trail food which consisted of PBJ sandwich, crackers and snacks. Oh, yes, a Moxie brought from home as a special treat. Supper we cooked more trail food out on the patio area using the Jetboil and pocket rocket.

I had Gluten Free Mac and cheese with sundried tomatoes and bacon and Pappa Bear had instant potatoes with spam and butter and my leftovers.

I have had such a nice relaxing day but poor Pappa Bear has had to work all day. He goes through so much for me. He works hard and does whatever he can to make this journey of mine successful. He is awesome. I am blessed to have him in my life.

Well, it’s almost hot tub time, then to bed early. The trail is calling even though it is only 8 miles planned. Not too many options for extraction points tomorrow. It’s either 8 miles or 17. I chose 8.

Happy Hiking
