The shuttle left the hostel at 7:30am. There were 6 of us heading up Mt. Lafayette today. Two hiked on and four of us kind of stayed together. It was Wye Knot, Mr. Peanut Butter, Iron Maiden and my self. They are a really cute young married couple who we have seen off and on for several weeks. It was nice being with someone over the ridge and summit. The wind was really bad and it was also foggy and misty.
Part way down the mountain once I got below tree line I stopped to take a break and eat. I had not eaten since breakfast. There was no real place to sit so I sat on my pack. I had never down that before but I see others do it all the time. I had barely gotten comfy and I hear, “bleeeeep”. Oh, no. I had activated my SOS signal. I didn’t mean to do that. It was on my pack I just sat on. I frantically tried to cancel it but could not see the screen. I dug through my pack for my glasses but thankfully Mr. Peanut Butter came up and was able to push the correct sequence. About ten minutes later I heard a helicopter. “Now way!!!” I thought, “that can’t be for me”. It came really close then went away.
We arrived at the shelter about 4pm. Just in time to grab space before it started filling up. It is going to be full tonight. Which is good since the temp is supposed to drop to about 20 degrees. Great.
It is already getting cold. I so glad I have all my cold gear including my down jacket. I think I will put it on and start the warming process.
